Stranger Things

Stranger Things (2016-  )
Created by: Matt Duffer,Ross Duffer
Starring: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown

On Friday, I was putting the finishing touches on this week’s Netflix & Chill – my weekly recommendations for your weekend Netflix binge, and twitter was starting to explode with people talking about Stranger Things on Netflix. Usually, I am not a sci-fi watcher. I am only now getting into The X-Files. The log line Netflix gave mentioned a missing child and the 1980’s, so I decided to give it a shot. I was impressed, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Stranger Things takes place in Indiana in the 1980’s, where a young boy disappears into thin air. We then follow his best friends and his family as they try to find him. That’s all I’ll say about the plot. You’re just going to have to watch it to learn more.

4793I have to say, it’s not often that I am really impressed by child actors, impressed to the point that I think they outshine some of the adults they share the screen with. The kids in this show blew my mind– especially Millie Bobby Brown. She is going to be the next Jodie Foster. I am calling it now. She spoke maybe 20 words in the whole season and had by far the best performance.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see Winona Ryder. I’ve always thought she was a great actress.  I thought this was a brilliant role for her and for me, she knocked it out of the park. I hope that this gets picked up for a second season, I would love to see more of her.

Needless to say, like most good shows– I binged the hell out of it this weekend. I found myself watching it late into the night and it being the first thing I turned on in the morning. It’s a mix of X-Files / E.T. / Freaks & Geeks.  It’s fun to watch, beautifully shot and only a little bit tacky.  Definitely watch this.
